This panel is sponsored by the SCS Committee on Translations of Classical Authors and is motivated by the Committee's desire to give literary translators in Classics a venue to present their work. Translation plays a vital role in our field, as a mainstay of education and outreach, and as a complex art that scholars of the ancient world may be especially well poised to understand and value. The Committee on Translations has sponsored two previous panels which showcased scholarly work; for 2024, we want to honor creative work, and to highlight the performance dimension of literature by asking the presenters to read at least part of their work in the original language as well as in their translation. The work itself will take the spotlight, but presenters will also discuss and answer questions about the translation process.
