Shama Cash-Goldwasser is an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at CDC, based at the Minnesota Department of Health. She is an infectious diseases physician. She has extensive global health experience and has worked in a number of countries, including in Tanzania where she studied endemic bacterial zoonoses as a Fogarty Fellow, and in Kenya where she studied arboviral causes of undifferentiated fever. Her primary interests are public health preparedness and response to emerging infectious diseases that disproportionately effect marginalized communities. Soon after joining the Epidemic Intelligence Service in summer 2022, she was deployed for four months to the clinical consultations team within the national mpox response and also contributed to mpox response efforts in Minnesota.
