Dr. Terry Engelken grew up in a row crop and beef cattle operation in northeastern Kansas. He graduated with his DVM in 1987 from Kansas State University. He joined a mixed animal practice in Onaga, KS before returning to KSU for a residency and master’s program in Beef Cattle Production Medicine. He then joined the faculty at Mississippi State in 1991 and worked out of the Field Service Unit teaching clinical production medicine, performing applied beef cattle research, and didactic teaching. In 2007, he moved to the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine where his appointment still includes field service clinical rotations, research and classroom teaching. His interests include metabolic markers for bovine respiratory disease, replacement heifer development, feedlot lameness, confined cow/calf operation management, and factors affecting cow herd profitability. He has been married to his wife Elizabeth for 36 years and they have been blessed with four children and three grandchildren.
