Susan D. Jones holds a DVM from the University of Illinois (1990) and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania (1997). She also worked in a mixed-animal practice in Colorado before returning for her PhD in History and Sociology of Science. Dr. Jones is the author of numerous articles and three books: Valuing Animals: American Veterinarians and Their Patients; Death in a Small Package: A Short History of Anthrax; and A Concise History of Veterinary Medicine (co-authored with Peter A. Koolmees). Dr. Jones has been a Guggenheim Scholar, a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar, and is an elected member of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science.
