Flyover Zone was founded in 2016 with the mission of virtualizing and democratizing cultural heritage. We do this through our two product lines: Yorescape®, our proprietary solution for curated virtual tours across space and back in time to see the ruins spring to life on archaeological sites such as the Roman Forum or Athenian Acropolis. Our Virtual Museum is a collection of 1,000+ interactive 3D models of classical sculptures we digitized in museums in the USA and in Europe. Both products were released in free test versions in June 2022. In January 2023, they were put behind paywalls and made available to subscribers only. We offer two kinds of subscriptions: individual subscriptions for private use; enterprise licenses for use by educational institutions, public libraries, and other organizations serving the public.

Through virtualization, the company’s two product lines dramatically reduce the cost of experiencing a heritage site or monument. At each stop of a Yorescape® tour the company provides commentary by one of the world’s leading experts. The 3D models in our Virtual Museum come with the kind of information normally seen on a museum label, and we usually also provide a link to additional information from a vetted scholarly source. The experts heard on our virtual tours are rarely, if ever, available to real-world tourists. The art that can be seen in our Virtual Museum comes from dozens of museums and hence cannot be seen as cheaply and conveniently in the real world. Hence, Flyover Zone democratizes world heritage in two ways: we make access to sites and monuments easily affordable to individuals and to educational institutions in the USA and elsewhere. Secondly, we offer our users information about what is being seen that is normally available only to advanced students and scholars.
