Abstract
New archaeological data and
evidence of building remains were brought to light during extensive soil
removal and cleaning works south/southeast of the Hellenistic telesterion and
north of the archaic and late Roman telesterion, carried out with the framework
of the project “Promotion of the Archaeological Site of the Kabeirion Sanctuary
on Lemnos island,” which was implemented by the Operational Program of the
North Aegean 2014–2020, aiming at the restoration of one of the most important
archaeological sites and popular tourist destinations of the borderline island
of Lemnos.
This paper examines the new
excavation data and compares it with earlier documented publications on the
form of this great sanctuary from the Archaic to the Roman period.
