Dr. James Runnels is an ER Physician and a private pilot with multi-engine and instrument ratings. He owns and flies a Mooney and twin Aerostar out of Baton Rouge, LA. Runnels is passionate about flight safety and an expert in carbon monoxide poisoning, with direct experience treating affected patients in the ER and in hyperbaric chambers. He will cover the hows and whys of CO poisoning, with particular emphasis on the risk of persistent low level buildup for pilots in piston GA aircraft. This will include a case study review of the famous Dan Bass CO survival account and an easy-to-understand discussion of why the body is so susceptible to CO poisoning.
