Description

"Personal and Political in Rome and China: New Approaches to Sino-Roman Comparison" expands on the growing interest in cross-cultural comparison between Rome and Early China. This panel's particular interest is in the intersection of cultural beliefs and political development, expanding on the Institutional Comparison approach adopted by Scheidel 2009 and 2015. That Scheidel's approach avoided cultural topics has been noted as peculiar (Christopher 2021), and this panel thus builds on the culturally-grounded-politics approach of by Beck and Vankeerberghen 2021 and Forthcoming.
